IT’S ALL CANADA’S FAULT EH !

The entire Southwest is experiencing VERY COLD temperatures and apparently it’s all Canada’s fault – or so I’m told.  Something about a cold front coming down from there.  Well they can keep it up there where it belongs !!

Usually, in the coldest months, Yuma is the warmest spot.  Not so lately and it’s going to stay cold until at least Monday.

As of 4:20 this afternoon, Apache Junction was showing 41F (5C) and it’s going to a low of 31F (-.5C) tonight. SANDIE likes her heat as much as I do so I dare say she’s NOT happy with this weather.

Quartzsite was showing 41F also and going to a low of 29F (-1.6C) tonight.

Jean & Skip hurriedly left Borrego Springs, CA and just in the nick of time.  It was 50F (10C) but going to a low of 31F tonight and SNOW was sighted !!

La Quinta, CA (where Tara & Joe are right now) was showing 51F (10.5C) but going to a low of 28/F (-2.2C) tonight.

And even Yuma was only showing 50F (10C) and it’s going to a low of 33F (-.5C) tonight. We will have to wait until Monday to see those gorgeous 70’s again.

What on earth is happening here !!

I had BOTH of my Mr. Heater’s going all day and been on the couch under a quilt.

MARTINEZ LAKE

OK so this was WEEKS and WEEKS ago !!  LOL  I guess I’ll eventually get caught up with my Blogging.

I had read on RENE'S BLOG that they took a little ride to Martinez Lake from Yuma.  I googled it and determined it would be a perfect ride for us one day.

So off we headed from Q, South on the 95.  Pat is leading the way (on her gorgeous Harley Trike) with Rita riding on the back.  Behind her is Sandy’s oh so cool URAL with the other Pat in the sidecar.

03

It’s about 70 Miles from Q which is plenty riding for me these days.  Following behind me was Joe & Tara.

05

Here are some of the motley crew…Vicky & Cathy decided to follow us in their car so they could join us for lunch.

08

Me and Tara with Joe’s gorgeous Harley Davidson Heritage Softail being featured !

10

As you can see by the way we are dressed it wasn’t an overly warm beginning to the day but it did warm up.  I even wore my HEATED JACKET but did take it off on the way back.

12

Martinez Lake is definitely a very pretty spot but I wouldn’t want to spend any time there.  The homes are piled on top of each other everybody trying to get a view of the Lake.  WAAAAY to crowded.

20

Most of us packed a lunch and others went into the restaurant/bar to get their lunch.

23

Of course a Blog Post is never complete without a few pictures of the amazing sunsets we get here in the Southwest.  I never tire of looking at them.

JOE & TARA & MILO ARE HERE !!

I’m already back in the Yuma area and still haven’t finished blogging about Q.

I spent the Summer of 2013 at Harrison River RV Park and posted many Blogs about that gorgeous place.  It was there that I met Joe & Tara and of course Mr. Milo.

Joe & Tara were able to head South this year and came to Q !!  Yup, They were the ‘idiots’ who parked right behind me.  LOL  I think some of you may not have gotten my sense of humour.

They had been in Yuma for a few days in a fancy smanchy RV Park with a ton of RULES !!  They didn’t like it.  They were stopped one time because they were not wearing their name tags and another time while walking in the evening because they didn’t have a flashlight with them.  Give me a frikkin’ break !

So this was their first experience boondocking and they quickly realized they couldn’t be running their furnace for heat.  The furnace will suck your batteries dry in no time.  They only have 3 batteries and Joe got portable solar panels with a total of 130 Watts.

We got a small Mr. Heater ordered for them on Amazon right away and that arrived in a few days.  Gotta love Amazon !  In the meantime they used my smaller one.

First thing I had to do was teach Joe was how to refill those little canisters.

06

Doing this is perfectly safe – IF done properly.  I showed him how to do it several times and then observed him doing it himself several times.  Plus I made him watch several videos on You Tube showing how it’s done.

By doing this it sure makes for a very inexpensive way to heat your rig.

07

Then he wanted to fix the wiring I had done HERE.

09

Jeeze,  I thought I had done a GREAT job but oh no he wasn’t satisfied !!  Had to put them together with those silly little blue thingies…...

11

And then secure everything nice and tidy ------hmmm, like the way I had them !!

13

Next thing you know he’s checking various oil etc. levels on Ms. Daisy.  That boy simply can’t sit still !!  But he sure is handy to have around !!  LOL

14

I did manage to get him outta my hair for a short while as they went for a short bike ride to test out Mr. Milo in his new shoulder harness while riding the bike.

01

It was a success !  Mr. Milo loved it.  Of course he was cuddled right up next to his Mom.  Wouldn’t work for me and Bennie as I am the rider and need both hands and focus on the riding.

It is so nice seeing these great Folks again and spending time with them.

SCENES AROUND Q

Yup,  It’s that time of year when it’s very cool or even (GASP !) COLD in the mornings.  And my little guy’s whole body just shakes.  MOM TO THE RESCUE !!!  I heat up his cushion and then get him on it.  He doesn’t move for hours !!

01

The ‘crowds’ are not here yet in Q but still certainly a lot of people around.  One day BARBARA and I went out for Lunch and she suggested Sweet Darlene’s.  I had never been there.  Boy was the food good – and the HOMEMADE desserts even better.

01

02

I want to try the Cod Fish Fry some Friday.  I’m sure it’s not going to be as good as the Cod me Mudder cooks that’s straight from the Atlantic Ocean but we’ll see.

03

This year I can actually DRIVE around the LTVA’s to look at the different set-ups.

Christmas (BAHHHH HUMBUG) is definitely in the air.  And yes, they can have all of these lights out while boondocking if they have adequate solar.

01

02

I bet it’s very pretty all lite up at night – but I won’t be doing that because I’d never find my way back home !!

05

Now this is a first even for me.  Never saw someone living in their BOAT in the DESERT no less but that is exactly what these Folks are doing.

03

And these Folks are LIVING in their tent for the Season.  Lots of tents around.

04

Had to get up on the roof to clean my solar panels so took this shot of Rita/Pat’s group across the wash from where I am.

03

Zoomed in for a better view…

04

05

Wait a minute !  Who are these IDIOTS who pulled in right behind me !!!????  Jeeze,  like the desert isn’t BIG enough that they couldn’t find a spot farther away !!

06

Well, whoever they are they have a dog just like my Bennie.  The dogs approach each other cautiously- like maybe they’ve met before ???

08

AND it looks like they are going to stay awhile ??  BUT at least they have SOLAR !!  So I guess they can’t be all that bad ??

06

AND they are not only fellow riders – but they ride the Harley Davidson Heritage Softail same as me.  Hmmm,  maybe I might be liking these Folks after all ??

02

Will have to save the rest of my ‘observations’ of these RV’ers for my next post.

A LITTLE RIDE TO BOUSE, AZ

Back pain – shoulder pain etc. etc. etc. prevent me for doing any long distance riding.  So when Pat suggested a little ride to Bouse, AZ for some kind of a motorcycle/car Show I was totally for it.  Bouse is less than 40 miles from Q.

08

There was supposed to be a Antique Car/Motorcycle Show & Shine there that day but it didn’t turn out to be much of anything.  Didn’t matter to use though as we enjoyed the ride, had lunch and then headed back home.

There’s Pat leading the way on her gorgeous Harley Davidson Trike heading up Plomosa Rd. which is a very scenic ride.

The ride up Plomosa Rd. to Bouse is gorgeous.

01

Sandy has a URAL with the sidecar and she put her Teddy Bear in the sidecar.

02

Had to be well dressed as we left at 10:00AM and it’s still cool and even cooler when riding.

03

04

Sandy’s URAL sure got the most attention !

05

A few of the cars on display.

06

07

09

10

But at least they did collect some teddy bears for the kiddies for Christmas.

11

We decided to take a different route home and continued along Highway 72 and then Highway 60, through Brenda, AZ and back to Q.

DEFINITELY OVERDUE FOR AN UPDATE

Yup,  This is WINTER in Southern Arizona !

01

I decided again this year to get the LTVA Permit $180 for the entire season.  Last year was the first year I did that and it worked out well for me.

I am finding that as each year passes I’m am moving less and less.  Having the Permit allows me to stay at any of the LTVA’s in Arizona and California for as long as I want.

So I’m settled in here in Quartzsite quite nicely.

Now why does my little guy look so unhappy in this pic !!??

02

JERI & TERRY blew through Town for an overnight or two so we grabbed BARBARA and all went to Silly Al’s for pizza.

Sure is great pizza there and the company even better !

So far my solar/batteries are doing great without having to tilt the panels.  I ‘accidently’ found that out last year when I was somewhere that I knew I was only going to be for a few days so I didn’t bother to tilt them.  I discovered I was still getting a full charge by early/mid morning.

So I stopped tilting them and everything is great.  Of course it helps that my energy use is so minimal and basically I’m just using the top 10% of the charge.

It’s certainly isn’t a major chore to tilt the panels, however, if I don’t have to then it means one less set-up job.

Other than that I’ve just been puttering around not doing much of anything.  BUT this past week I got Visitors from B.C. so I’ll save that for another post.
