JUST HANGING OUT IN YUMA

Before leaving Q and knowing I was going to be filling up my fresh water tank, I gave Bennie a bath.  He was gray from all the desert dust.  The shower was full of sand when I finished.

01

He’s back to being his very handsome self again and likes to prance around.

02

Then he likes to do this little scuffle with the towels…

Shortly after arriving in Yuma we had a HUGE thunder, lightening and wind storm.  Now this is a sight you don’t often see in Yuma…..

01

Thankfully I had already been to the Yuma Library so had lots of books to read.  We were stuck inside for TWO days !!  Nothing you could do but hunker down under the quilts and wait it out.

Everything outside got thrashed.

07

My little guy is terrified of thunder.  Bennie very seldom wants to be on the couch with me.  And even when he does, it’s at the end of it.

This is more his style of lounging at night.

07

But when he’s frightened well then he wants to be as close to me as possible.

06

Once the thunder stopped he resumed his position…

02

Next up was getting my batteries looked at.  I had (6) 6V batteries installed last year complete with the watering system.  Well every time I went to fill them one of the cells would leak over on the battery and then on the floor of the compartment.  That’s ACID Folks !!

03

Discount Solar in Quartzsite did this install for me last year and I stopped in there on my way out of Quartzsite. They were very busy and didn’t have time to check out the problem that day.  They did tell me about a place in Yuma – where they get their batteries from – that would look at it for me no charge.  They even called ahead for me.

This was the problem !!  This is the cap that goes on the battery cell from the watering system.  It’s not supposed to be broken like that.

He put on a new one and everything is now working as it should.

04

Arizona sunsets are breathtaking…

05

And as you can see, there is no shortage of space when you boondock in the desert.

06

Next up was a problem with my Hot Water.  I would turn it on and it would light for a second and then go out.  I checked the obvious things ie fuses, breakers, propane turned on etc. etc.  but still no go.

I e-mail Jean and told her about the problem and she offered up Skip to come have a look at it.

10

After testing and checking the obvious it still wouldn’t stay on. Next thing you know he had almost everything apart !!!  G U L P !!

14

And then comes along an RV neighbour who gave his two cents worth….

15

He figured the problem was this ‘board’ and suggested we take it over to Al’s RV to get it tested. Yes, Something else taken completely apart !!  I thought I wasn’t going to have a nerve left !!!  He DOES know what he’s doing…..right ????

16

Whatever this ‘board’ thing is, it tested OK.  So that wasn’t the problem.  Al sent Skip back to check something else.

By this time it’s getting well into the afternoon and nobody had had lunch.  We were starving !!

Stopped in at the Daybreakers Cafe – had never eaten there before – BUT had a feeling it was going to be good ‘cause it’s right next to a Truck Stop and it’s where all the Truckers eat.

Can’t remember what concoction this was that Skip ordered.  But he ate every single bit of it !!

03

Jean went with pancakes and said they were delicious.

04

I went with an omelette.  Damn it was GOOD !!

05

With full tummies back at it we (and by ‘we’ I mean Skip) went.  SUDDENLY it worked !!!???  Turns out there was some crude on a wire and all Skip did was scrape it off.

12A

OK, So what was next ?  Oh yes, Check the water filter and pump screen.

Those of you who follow regularly will remember that I got some really bad water at some point in my fresh water tank.  The water filter was BROWN and the screen on the pump was completely clogged up with gunk !!

This is what it looks like now.

01

Clean as a whistle !!

02

Susan and Leon drop by for a visit !!  I met these great Folks through Jamie & Mudder last year – or was it the year before ??  Oh who can remember these things.

Poor guys are from the Canadian Prairie Provinces – but I try not to hold that against them.  I’m sure I’ll see them again over the Winter.

03

I had quite a long list of things to do when I arrived in Yuma and I’m still trying to cross off things.  The RV needed an oil and filter change and off we go to get that done.

You will notice my little Bennie doing a great job of Supervising.

01

Looks like I needed a new Air Filter also….

02

The biggest ant hills I’ve ever seen in my life are here in Arizona !!  You can’t see them in this picture but there were a gazillion of them !!

03

Now to get the rig washed – FINALLY !!

04

This Company offers a wash and HAND wax AND roof treatment for $99.00 !!!

05

06

While all this was going on Bennie went around to make sure all the bushes were watered.

08

“Oh look Mom, I found one that wasn’t.”

09

Yes, They even did the windows.  The guy on the roof is putting the roof treatment on.

10

I was THRILLED with the result.  There are numerous ‘mobile’ RV Wash Companies in Yuma but this is the one I chose.

11

And you can’t beat the price !!

12

No room on your roof for a Solar Panel ??  No worries – put it on the window !!

07

“Mom, Will you stop banging away on that computer  – I’m trying to sleep here !!”

08

Next week it’s the bike’s turn to get pampered.  First servicing and then properly washed – yes, there is even a ‘mobile’ service here in Yuma for motorcycle washes !!

After that I think I’ll head back to Q for a few weeks.

And people will often ask “Do you ever get bored?”

OH THE EXCITEMENT OF IT ALL

You just never know what you’re going to see when you look out the window.  What on earth is she up to now !!??  And on the roof no less.

Well you’ll just have to check out BARBARA'S BLOG to see what she was up to that day.

02

It continues to amuse me (yes, I get amused very easily Rolling on the floor laughing)when I see the various ways people bring their portable waste tanks to the dump station.  Using their ATV’s is the most popular but one year I saw someone on a motorcycle towing the tank.

Wonder if I should start doing that ???  N O T !!

13

I was at the Grocery Store the other day and saw this VW.  Check out the ‘bullet holes’.

09

The Owner even got a mini version on his dash.

10

CHORES CHORES CHORES

Jeeze,  Didn’t I just do laundry ?  Why can’t they make disposable clothes ??  So while I’m at it I might as well bring my drinking water jugs to fill and the garbage to dispose of.  Who needs a car !  PFFFTTT !!

01A

What I didn’t know was that Barbara – who never has her camera out of her hand – took this shot of me leaving.

Perhaps it’s just the angle of the pic but does the bike look humungous and me ….. well not so humungous ???

04

And there she was with the camera again as I returned home.

05A

I noticed a HUGE Class A RV pulling in yesterday with a custom ‘flames’ paint job – pulling an equally HUGE trailer.  I don’t know if it was exactly like this one that I just got off the Internet but it was close..

flamecoach

It’s not for me but hey it’s only paint.

So today I’m over at the water spot filling a large container and I get chatting with this woman.  Well actually she came over to me when she saw my bike.

Turns out they are the Owners of the rig.  They tow a 20 FOOT trailer which houses their two ATV’s and of course their Harley.

They stopped by later for a visit.

03

I now have three new neighbours – the desert is sooooo small they couldn’t find another spot but right across from me.

You will notice their first order of priority – get those satellite dishes up so they can watch their TV.

03

And you likely guessed it – their next order of business was get those generators running !!!

15

It’s only been a few days but already I’m tired of listening to the constant drone of the generators – day and night, so I’ve decided to move on.

Figure I’ll head into Yuma for a couple of weeks.  Not sure yet where I’m gonna perch.  Either Pilot Knob or Imperial Dam as I purchased the Permit this year. Or I might even pull into the VFW which is my least favourite spot.  But it’s the most convenient in terms of running into Town to get things done.

And this is what Bennie has to say about it all….

LOVE AMAZON SHOPPING

This is a sun RISE Folks – I don’t get to see many of those.

01

OK FINE !  I did realize that I had gotten up far too early that day and did end up going back to bed for another while.Open-mouthed smile

Now about AMAZON…..

I mean Amazon.com NOT Amazon.ca.  I wondered why I only shop on Amazon when I’m in the States.

Is it because when I’m in Canada I don’t think of it ?

Or maybe because the .ca website just doesn’t have the great selection that the .com site has ?

Or maybe it is because the prices are different ??

WELL, here is the answer to the last question.

A set of Solar Rope Lights (100) on Amazon.com sells for $31.06…..

http://www.amazon.com/Flipo-Solar-Rope-Light-White/dp/B005OPR4ZA/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1384370050&sr=8-8&keywords=solar+rope+lights

And yet the IDENTICAL set on Amazon.ca sells for $80.60 !!!

http://www.amazon.ca/Flipo-Solar-Rope-Light-White/dp/B005OPR4ZA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1384370064&sr=8-7&keywords=solar+rope+lights

Make no wonder Canadians try and make their purchases once across the Border !!

NOTE: If you’re gonna order anything on Amazon why not go through BARBARA'S BLOG and click on the link from there.  That way she gets a few pennies from the sale to go towards her gas expense.

Once I arrived in Quartzsite – and got an address for mailing – I ordered a few things:

First up was another one of those Motion Sensor Lights.  I bought one here last year at Discount Solar (for the front door) for $60.00 plus tax.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this light.

I has an LED Bulb included (and we all know how expensive they are !!) so no drain on your batteries; you don’t have to worry about if you’ve turned the light on or off; and (for me) it’s a MAJOR security feature.

02

With shipping included it came to $52.50 !!!  This was the price tag right on the box.  So I saved $10.00+ by going through Amazon.

01

I installed it yesterday – with some help from a Neighbour.  I took a gazillion pictures as I was removing the old one to ensure I knew what wires went where.  I was at it for HOURS !!

But it was this little doo-jigger that I had trouble with.  I simply could not get the new wire in and crimped.  I guess my hands just don’t work that way.  Now if JIM or TERRY were here I know they would have made quick work out of this little job.

07A

But thanks to a Neighbour it is now wired and I was able to finish the installation – which included having to drill two new holes in the rig.

All I have to do now is put some caulking around it.

02

I like the black one much better on my rig than the white one…

03

The light over the front door….

04

I also ordered a bottle of this cleaner for the bike’s windshield.  Even WITH shipping it was cheaper than what I pay for it at the HD dealer.

03

Also needed a new cover for the bike.  In the big wind storm we had while I was in Overton, NV, my old (very cheap) cover got destroyed.  This one is a much better quality.

05

And it even comes with hooks that you can attach under the bike so the cover doesn’t blow off.  I won’t be bothering with that though.

06

AND it even came with a cable and lock !!  No, I won’t be bothering with that either.  But I’m thinking this cable and lock will come in handy for something else.

04

Those of you that know me well know that I have a BIG PHOBIA !!  And NO we are not talking about it !!  So if there’s anything I can do or buy to deter UNWANTED GUESTS into my rig I’ll be doing and buying it !!

BARBARA told me about this Product – I ordered SEVERAL boxes !!

06

Noticed solar rope lights UNDER JEAN & SKIP'S rig and asked about it.  They told me it was another deterrent for ‘Henry’s’ so I ordered TWO sets !!

05

And that is the end of my Amazon shopping.  My Credit Card is starting to melt !!!  LOL
