FREED FROM AVONDALE

We sure were getting sick of hanging around at Wallys !  Yesterday the final piece of paperwork got finalized and we were scheduled to go to the Dealership in the afternoon.

So why waste all morning huh ?  Gotta get that Brother of mine to do more work !!  The last few days I’ve been getting an awful smell from the sink.  Really BAD !  Smelled like fish to me.  Carol had cooked some fish a few days prior and I thought perhaps some of it has accidentally gone down the sink and got caught in the trap part.

I tried flushing the sink out with boiling water but that didn’t help at all.  Don said we had to take it apart. I always worry when things have to be taken completely apart.  LOL

01

Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy -  What a smell when this part was opened.

02

I made the mistake of putting my nose right to it.  No doubt that’s where the smell was coming from but we still don’t know why.  There was nothing caught in there.

03

Every job in an RV seems to require taking everything apart and creating a mess !!

04

With all parts off he went out and gave everything a very thorough cleaning.

05

Once everything was back in place I gave the sink a good cleaning and so far no smell.  Another job done !

The reward at the end of all of that was they got to drive their new (to them) 2002 Red Mustang Convertible out of the lot !

07

But I gotta tell you Folks – my Brother and his wife are WEIRD !!  Here we are in Arizona on an absolutely beautiful warm day – knowing we are only going as far as Gila Bend (one hour) and they didn’t want to put the top down !!??  It’s a frikkiin’ convertible !!  No, There’s just no figuring out some people !

But you got to admit – they do look happy behind the wheel.

08

We didn’t get out of the dealership until after 5:00PM so decided to drive only as far as Gila Bend.  Anywhere but Wally’s in Avondale !!  LOL

We will do the last two hour drive today to Yuma.

STUCK IN AVONDALE, ARIZONA !!

My Brother BARRELLED us across North America in order to reach our (HIS !!) ‘destination’ in HIS allotted time frame……
Then HE sees a gorgeous MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE………….
And now WE all have to wait here in Avondale while the paper work is being done, money transferred etc. etc.
AND it’s hotter than hell------------
02
While driving down the street where the dealership was located we took on an extra passenger….
01
This is our THIRD night at Wally’s and we’re making the best of it.  Being a weekend has delayed the sale transaction and hopefully tomorrow things will get moving and we’ll do the last leg of our trip – YUMA !!  My friends from B.C. are already there at Imperial Dam.
04
Good thing I’m such a wonderful, flexible, adaptable, patient, helpful, loving Sister !!  We’ve been here since last Friday, October 19th – that’s FIVE DAYS !!
The biggest challenge in the last five days was trying to keep my Brother busy so he wouldn’t drive Carol and I totally out of our minds !!!
We checked out the roof due to taking on that extra passenger above and found a broken antenna….
01
Yes, The black rubber antenna part was still actually laying on the roof – not where it is in the picture – but the part that connects it is somewhere on the streets of Avondale.
We checked the oil level in the generator and found it to be low so topped that off.
Someone pointed out to us that we had a headlight gone so Don got the replacement one in Wally’s – after all Wally has been VERY gracious in hosting us for 5 days now !!  Turns out it wasn’t the bulb at all but a loose connection which Don located and promptly secured – never to come loose again !!
01
02
03
Then we sent HIMSELF outside to clean the windows……..
05
He actually creates work for himself (I think) by washing the window first with soap and water and then cleaning the whole windshield again with Windex ??
06
Carol is like someone on steroids !!!!  Lordy Lordy Lordy, How much energy does she have !!  She has been preparing our meals (yes, THREE meals a day !!) and most of the time even cleaning up afterwards – I’m not fast enough to the sink.
Yesterday, She cleaned the bathroom floor to ceiling and then washed the living area floor !
04
She did finally relax one day for about an hour and watched a bit of TV….
07
We had to pull out one day to do the tanks, get propane etc. etc.  Here is my Brother watching the process and asking a million questions !!
10
As Bennie looks on…
09
There are just no amount of words to describe my Brother.  Relaxed would NOT be one of them !  LOL  He’s always out walking around because he cannot relax and therefore gets restless.  On his walks he discovers things left in shopping carts !!
08
His first haul was those three cans on the right.  Second haul was that stuff on the left.  And yesterday was that tube of toothpaste in the middle.  We see him strolling back to the rig with this big smirk on his face.
Today is supposed to be the big day where they take possession of their SMOKIN’ RED MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE.  Wire transfers are in, insurance dealt with etc. etc. etc.
We are all looking forward to finally reaching Yuma.

ALMOST THERE ALREADY !

Will you guys look at that map my EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT is keeping up to date in my Header !!  WOW !!  Make no wonder my head is in a spin and my more old body doesn’t know what time it is !!  I’ll feel like I’m rolling for days from the motion of driving !!  LOL
I finally got to stop at a Harley Davidson store – in Knoxville I believe…
01
Even Don enjoyed going around looking at all the gorgeous merchandise and bikes !
02
Yes, That’s a shopping bag in my hand !!  hehehe
04
I did manage to find a little something to add to my every growing collection.
05
06
And if there’s food within a 10 miles radius my Brother will find it !!  He’s chomping down on some popcorn he found in the store.  Funny thing – I never saw it ?? I must have been distracted looking at other things.
05
He CLAIMS he doesn’t sleep while I’m driving………….hmmm
06
The weather has been fabulous every day.  This day it was very warm so we enjoyed our lunch outside at a rest stop.
08
I had to make a list of chores for HIMSELF !!!  If not he gets very antsy and bored and thinks we should be DRIVING !!
01
So if I keep him busy with chores our nerves (me and Carol) are always much better.
02
The handle on my water filling thing broke….
FRESH WATER HANDLE
So I set him to work to fix it and Carol and I got some peace !!!!!
03
Then I wanted to install one of those roof fan thingies to help with the toilet smell….
01
So I got him to install that for me – another hour of peace !!
04
Another job done !
07
And last but likely not least, he also fixed the shower door.  Remember this pic ?
03
I’ve had trouble with the shower doors since I bought this rig.  Turns out it was missing one of these little babys:
02
Which was not to be found at any Camping World, Lowe’s or Home Depot anywhere !!  We did get the little wheel part and Don was able to improvise with a rubber washer, cut and a hole drilled or something like that.  It’s now fixed and the door slides better than it ever did !  Guess he’s good for something !!
Now I want you all to know that ALL of these jobs I could have done myself !!  But I gotta say it’s nice to have someone else do them.
We left Gallup, NM this morning and will be somewhere in the Phoenix area tonight.
Tomorrow we will be in Yuma with 90+ (F) of HEAT.  I’ve checked out some RV Parks and will likely pull into one of them for the week Don and Carol are with me and after that I’ll go to a boondocking spot.
And I’m tired !  Will be glad to get off the road now.

TRAVELLING – WITH OTHERS

This is what mornings are like…………

01

See my precious Bennie cuddled up on the bed.

I’m up at least AN HOUR before Bro and SIL.  Bennie wants up also but then when he realizes there’re really no excitement on the go he wants to get in bed with them.  He was very content this morning until Carol started to stretch and disturbed him.  It has become a daily routine now.

DESERT PIN STRIPPING

The other night when we pulled into Wally’s I eyed a dandy spot right at the back of the parking lot and tucked nicely into a corner and directed Don to pull in there.  He wasn’t  in close enough (for my liking) so I asked him to pull in closer to the curb.

WELL we heard the scratching and I went out to have a look.  The trees looked innocent enough with just smaller leafy leaves so I thought the rig was ok………..until I went out to look.

There were several branches partially broken off leaving sharp ends – one larger one in particular.  When I went outside to look it had created a scratch from one end of the rig to the other.

When I originally bought this rig there were quite a number of scratches on it – although not overly noticeable - the previous Owner did not take good care of it.  I had the Dealership buff the worst of them out.  And of course over the last year I’ve added a few of my own.  ‘Tis the life of an RV’er as far as I’m concerned.

But Don was ROTTED !!  Newfie term for being pissed off !  Although he was driving he was not to blame one bit !  I was the one watching and instructing him to move in closer and I know, had I been driving, I would have pulled in exactly the same way.

First thing the next morning he had the ladder out trying to buff out the worst of the big scratch.

02

By the time he was finished the worst scratch was barely noticeable and the others were gone completely.

03

I’VE CREATED A MONSTER !!

Carol knows that I watch TV via my computer.  She was wondering if I could get “her show” via the computer.  Her show is The Young and The Restless – insert GAGGGG here !!  LOL

So I showed her how to do it and now she sits back while driving and is catching up on the shows she’s missed.

04

We are in Jackson, TN tonight – already more than 1/2 way there and it was sooooo warm last night.  Don’t even want to think about how HOT it’s going to be in Arizona this early !!

SO FAR…………

We’ve been on the road one week today and so far all is going well – very well in my opinion.  We’ve stayed out of ditches and nobody has been killed !!

Day ONE Don delayed us by a full day !  Can you even imagine that !!?  We arrived in Stephenville – that was 482 Miles/776KMS driving – and Carol’s Brother (Chris) told Don he was “going in ‘da woods” the following day.  Now for you ‘city folks’ that means he was going in to cut and haul out wood for his wood burning stove.

My Brother is a very SICK man ‘cause he LOVES going in the woods – yes, even more so than relaxing and vacationing in Florida or any other wonderful warm climate !!  He called me aside to ‘discuss’ the fact that he felt he should stay in Stephenville the following day to ‘help’ Chris.

Ya right !!  He was almost drooling over the thoughts of the pleasure HE would experience by going in the woods.  Oh My, Where did my Mother go wrong raising him !

Another day we were ‘delayed’ due to me getting my US Internet connection.  Before I go further let me qualify ‘delayed’.  This is my Brother’s  definition of things.  If we are not on the road driving 10 hours a day we are ‘delayed’.  Me ??  I don’t give a crap.  I have all Winter.  Don’t matter to me if we don’t reach Arizona until December – which it probably would be if it were just me driving !  LOL

In previous years I have been using the Verizon USB ‘Stick’ (3G) for my Internet access and it has worked out very well.  If I remember correctly, there has only been one place that I couldn’t get a connection.  And for those of you that know me, I HAVE TO HAVE my Internet !

Just before I left, I get an e-mail from Verizon about their new 4G Jetpack MiFi.  I stopped at a Verizon store in Maine to check it out to make sure it gave me all the features (at a minimum) as the Stick I was using – and the most important thing – no contract.

It did, PLUS (where 4G is available) it is much faster and the main bonus feature of this is that up to 5 computers can be on it at the same time !  Pay attention here LMJ !!  Another great feature of this is that for $90 a month I have 10GB’s of data I can use.  The old one was $80 for 5 GB’s. And as I like to watch TV via my computer, this also works out even better for me.

So Carol and I can sit back (while HIMSELF) is driving and do whatever we want on our computers.  Gotta love that !
Back to the ‘delay’ – they had problems getting everything installed and working properly – two hours later we were on our way.

While driving, Sister In Law (Carol) has gone from this:
02
To this:
04
Too this:
06
To this:
07
To this:
03
So you can see she is quite relaxed !

Brother (Don) has gone from this (looking a little tense I think):
03
To this:
01
To this:
09
So it would appear he’s quite relaxed as well !!

But all is not relaxing – gotta keep the boy working and earning his keep !!
08
Same goes with SIL – who prepares a fabulous breakfast – lunches AND dinners EVERY day !!  This gal ain’t complaining about that for sure !!!
05
Of course, there is always some minor glitch.  The shower doors came off their track and once I took everything apart – why is it that things always have to come completely apart in order to fix them ???? – I see that one of those little wheel thingies that holds the door in the track is missing.
03
04
We’ll be stopping at Camping World very shortly where hopefully I’ll be able to get a replacement.  If I can’t I’m not really sure where else to try ??

So that’s my update for today.
